For grown-ups

The Backyard Bestiary is a picture-book series by Troy Galmoff for children aged 5 to 8. This website lets children read Book One, Gerald the Dragon Lives in Locker 12, hunt for hidden brass keys, ask Gerald questions, play a sorting game and meet the characters.

Privacy

This site is built so that children can use it without sharing anything about themselves.

  • No accounts, sign-ups or log-ins.
  • No advertising, no tracking or analytics cookies, and no third-party trackers.
  • Children cannot type messages to anyone. “Ask Gerald” uses ready-made questions with answers written and approved by the author.
  • Progress in the key hunt is saved only in your own browser (local storage) and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it. The name typed on the certificate is not saved or sent anywhere.
  • Read-aloud uses your device's built-in voice; the text is not sent to us.
  • The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which sees a visitor's IP address in the normal way.
